THE WEEK IN R&B, October 18, 2026
Lucky Daye's ALOUD! and Snoh Aalegra's return lead the week, and John Legend's Muse is next.
THE BIG FRIDAY
Lucky Daye released ALOUD! on October 16. It's his first album for Warner Records, and its 15 tracks include “Nowhere Fast,” “Talk to Me” and “Mouf Say” with Pusha T, plus guest spots from Leon Thomas, Muni Long, The Paradox and Akeem Ali. The title plays on the gap between “allowed” and “aloud.”
Nao shared Autumn the same day, a 10-song album on Little Tokyo Recordings and the first chapter of her four-album series, A Soulful Suite. It includes “Eugene,” her tribute to D'Angelo. Cedric Brazle's Cologne, Vol. 1 EP, with Reggie Becton on “Casonova,” is worth finding too.
SINGLES WORTH YOUR TIME
Snoh Aalegra is back with “Karma,” her first new music in three years. Eric Benét shared “Heaven” from We Need Everybody, his first solo album in a decade, due this fall on his own JBR Creative Group. Jawan made his Epic Records debut with “Fresher Than Us,” built on OutKast's “So Fresh, So Clean,” and B2K released “Lil Freak” ahead of ECLIPSE, their first album in over 20 years, due November 6. Sammie's “GOYARD,” Gabriel Jacoby's “let's talk about it” and Chlöe's “Main Attraction (Remix)” with Monaleo round out the week.
THE NEWS
Tank made history with “YES,” his 12th No. 1 on Billboard's Adult R&B Airplay chart, the most by any man in the chart's 33 years. Drake and Don Toliver's “Solar Eclipse” debuted at No. 1 on Hot R&B Songs, Drake's 10th leader there and Don's first. SZA's SOS logged its 200th week on Top R&B Albums, 135 of them at No. 1.
D'Angelo's brother, Luther Archer, told Kiss Richmond the family is preparing a posthumous album with six tracks finished so far. Tyla premiered her new live-action “THAT GIRL” video at her A*POP World Tour stop in London.
ON SOUND RNB
Issue 002 reviewed ALOUD!, which we scored 7.5 (Strong). Snoh Aalegra's “Karma” topped this week's Friday Rankings, and SOUND RNB WEEKLY was refreshed Friday with the newest R&B worth hearing. Every upcoming date lives on our release calendar.
NEXT WEEK
John Legend releases Muse on Friday, October 23 via Republic. Pharrell Williams produced all 16 tracks and co-wrote the album, which includes the lead single “Daylight” and “Bodies On The Floor” with Clipse. On Thursday, October 22 at 9 p.m. ET, Carl Thomas and Case go head to head on VERZUZ, streaming on Apple Music.
